Is a Blacklane bot safe to use?

This is the first question every chauffeur asks, and it deserves a direct answer rather than a reassuring one. Automation acts on your behalf using your own account — so what it can do, and what it stores, matters more than any feature.

What has to be stored, and why

To read the offers your account receives and answer them, the platform authenticates as you. There is no way around that: Blacklane does not publish a partner API that a third party could use with a scoped token, so a bot that answers offers necessarily holds account credentials.

Any vendor telling you otherwise is describing something that does not exist. The honest question is not whether credentials are stored but how they are stored and what can be done with them.

Encrypted at rest

Credentials are encrypted before they are written to the database and decrypted only in memory at the moment they are used. They are never displayed back in the interface after you save them, and they are not written to application logs.

Not shared, not resold

Credentials, offers, passenger information and trip data are not shared with third parties or used to build any cross-customer dataset. There is no analytics product built on your ride history.

The only two things the bot does

Scope is the real security control. The platform performs exactly two actions against your account: it reads the incoming offer stream, and it sends the accept or reject your rules produced. That is the whole surface.

  • It does not message clients or respond to anyone on your behalf
  • It does not change your profile, availability settings or vehicle details
  • It does not cancel rides you have already accepted
  • It does not accept anything that fails a rule you configured
  • It takes no action of any kind for which you have not defined a rule

Everything is written down

An automation you cannot audit is one you have to trust blindly. Every decision the bot makes is recorded with a timestamp, the offer details, the outcome, and the specific rule that produced it. Rejections are kept alongside acceptances, which is what makes the log useful for tuning rather than just for reassurance.

If the bot ever accepts something you did not expect, the log tells you which rule let it through. In practice that is almost always a threshold set wider than the chauffeur remembered setting it.

You can stop it at any moment

Automation can be paused instantly, and pausing takes effect immediately rather than at the end of some cycle. With automation off, offers arrive exactly as they did before and you answer them by hand. Nothing about your account is left in an altered state.

Rules can also be narrowed without stopping the bot — tightening a price floor or removing a city applies to the next offer, not the next day.

What happens if the service fails

The dangerous failure is the silent one: automation stops, you stop watching the app because you believe it is covered, and offers pass unanswered. That scenario is treated as a bug rather than an acceptable edge case.

  • An independent watchdog monitors the scanner and restarts it automatically if it stops responding
  • Repeated failures escalate into an alert instead of being retried silently forever
  • Recovery attempts are bounded, so a broken state surfaces rather than looping
  • The system is designed so you never have to wonder whether it is running
